~ Happy Anniversary to us ~
We spent the weekend celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. We worked real hard all week to get all our weekend chores out of the way. Then we made a list of 10 things we liked to do and we planned to spend the whole weekend, enjoying free-time. Which we did. Nothing elaborate, just sweet relaxing stuff; flowers and chocolate were involved
Of course I spent Saturday celebrating and didn’t find out I was celebrating the wrong day until late Sunday afternoon when a friend called to say “Happy Anniversary” and I said, “Thanks” but after talking awhile I told her our anniversary was really yesterday. To which she replied, “But, I thought it was the 3rd.”
“It was, wasn’t that yesterday?”
In our home, I’m the one that never knows when anyones birthday or anniversary is. Sorry kids. Sorry other loved ones, but I love you all even if I don’t know your birthday or anniversary! I do at least know Christmas is December 25th and most major holidays although they do seem to sneak up on me.
But never mind about all that, should I tell you about our first anniversary?
Late in March ~ forty years ago, my husband says to me, “Should we thaw out our wedding cake?”
To which I replied, and I quote, “What for?”
“For our first anniversary.” He says.
Without thinking, I blurt out, “When is it?”
Needless to say this went over ~ “not well”. We thawed out the cake and tried to eat it. I’ve heard some people say their “in the freezer for twelve months”, year old wedding cake; that traveled who knows what kind of road to get to the freezer was delicious. I find this hard to believe because in all honesty our’s was horrible. We decided that if you can eat that thing one year later ~ you are tough enough to withstand ANYTHING! We couldn’t eat it but we still made it. So take heart Newlyweds. If you can’t eat the cake you may still survive.
